Queen Elizabeth 2 owner Nakheel has scrapped plans to locate the liner at the Palm Jumeirah artificial island development, reports Dubai’s The National newspaper. Instead, according to the newspaper, QE2 will move to a new location in the Port Rashid area of Dubai, where it she is currently berthed. Townhomes will reportedly fill the space QE2 was destined to fill at Palm Jumeirah.
“The QE2 will be placed in a much better location,” Ali Rashid Lootah, Nakheel’s chairman, told the newspaper. “The Government of Dubai is developing an up-to-date modern cruise terminal. That will be a better environment. It will stay in Dubai. The QE2 is part of Dubai.”
